Biofarma Group
Biofarma Group is a leading company in the nutraceutical sector, specialising in the research and development, production and packaging of food supplements, medical devices, probiotic-based medicines and cosmetics, exclusively on a contract basis. With a turnover of over €400 million and more than one thousand employees, the Group operates eight production facilities in Italy, France, the United States and China, working at high levels of specialisation to offer innovative and personalised solutions in the health and wellness market.
Since 2022, Circularity has been accompanying Biofarma Group as an ESG partner in a multi-year journey that expands each year, in step with the Group's growth and the evolving regulatory landscape.
The context
Biofarma Group had already taken concrete steps towards sustainability, but lacked a structured strategy capable of translating commitment into measurable objectives, reporting progress transparently and anticipating emerging regulations — starting with the CSRD Directive. For a group with eight production facilities across four continents and a complex supply chain, the challenge was not simply to measure internal impacts, but to build an ESG governance system capable of holding together strategy, reporting, emissions management and supply chain responsibility.
The objectives
To build and annually update an integrated sustainability strategy; report ESG performance through a Sustainability Report compliant with GRI Standards; measure and manage the carbon footprint across all emission Scopes; assess supply chain sustainability in line with emerging regulatory requirements; and, from 2026, align with the European taxonomy and conduct a structured climate risk analysis.
Circularity's contribution
Since 2022, Circularity has been supporting Biofarma Group across six integrated workstreams, with an approach that evolves each year in response to the Group's priorities and the regulatory context.
Sustainability strategic plan
Circularity has supported the definition of clear and measurable ESG objectives, periodically updating the materiality assessment process in line with the CSRD Directive and engaging top management to align the strategy with the Group's operational expansion. The plan integrates the three pillars — environmental, social and governance — into a vision consistent with the company's long-term objectives.
Annual Sustainability Report
Each year, Circularity supports Biofarma Group in drafting and publishing its Sustainability Report, ensuring continuity in reporting, updating of indicators and full transparency towards all stakeholders. The document is the central tool for communicating the Group's ESG progress to clients, partners, investors and institutions.
Carbon footprint measurement
Circularity has calculated greenhouse gas emissions across Scope 1, 2 and 3, with a progressive update roadmap designed to progressively involve all of the Group's production facilities. The measurement provides the foundation for investment decisions on energy efficiency and the decarbonisation pathway.
Supply chain ESG assessment
Biofarma Group's significant supply chain has been assessed through Circularity's digital tool, in line with the requirements of the CSDDD Directive. The objective is to build a structured view of impacts along the entire value chain and engage suppliers towards shared sustainability standards.
European taxonomy alignment and climate risk analysis (from 2026)
From 2026, the journey has expanded to include two new workstreams: the alignment of Biofarma Group's activities with the European taxonomy — a key instrument for attracting sustainable capital and meeting investor expectations — and a structured assessment of physical and transition climate risks, in line with international reference frameworks.
The results
Over more than three years of collaboration, Biofarma Group has built a robust, integrated and continuously evolving ESG system. The Group now has an annually updated sustainability strategy, a regularly published Sustainability Report, a Carbon Management Plan covering all emission Scopes and a structured supply chain mapping.
From 2026, the journey extends to European taxonomy alignment and climate risk analysis, further consolidating Biofarma Group's positioning as a reference point for sustainability in the nutraceutical sector. The "Top Employers 2024" recognition and participation in the United Nations Global Compact reflect the coherence between stated commitment and everyday practice.
