Cielle Imballaggi

Cielle Imballaggi S.r.l. is an Italian company that has specialized for over sixty years in the production and marketing of flexible packaging. Thanks to the intrinsic characteristics of its products, the company has always placed the concept of sustainability at the heart of every production and business action.

The context

Cielle Imballaggi had already integrated sustainability into its business model, but it wanted to voluntarily communicate the results of its activities on a regular basis, not limiting itself to financial aspects but also reporting on the social and environmental outcomes generated.

To ensure continuity in communication, a structured way was needed to convey economic, environmental and social impacts and to engage stakeholders.

The objectives

Producing a Sustainability Report compliant with GRI Standards, reporting on economic, environmental and social impacts and engaging stakeholders.

Circularity's contribution

Circularity supported Cielle Imballaggi in drafting the Sustainability Report, following a structured process compliant with GRI Standards and highlighting the company's circular approach.

1
Reporting process: proactive involvement of the entire stakeholder base to contribute to the co-creation of shared value in the medium to long term, reporting progress in relation to economic, environmental and social impacts.

2

Enhancing the circularity strategy: The company has developed an integrated approach to packaging sustainability based on three pillars:

  • Compostable packaging: TUV "ok compost" certified, for applications where the packaging can be disposed of together with organic waste. Proper disposal allows end facilities to generate energy and methane from the biogas resulting from degradation.

  • Packaging with recycled raw materials: containing high percentages of regenerated polyethylene (PCR Post Consumer Recycled and PIR Post Industrial Recycled), ensuring high quality and performance standards thanks to coextrusion techniques.

  • Mono-material multilayer packaging: designed to maximize recyclability potential at end of life. Composed of multiple layers of polyolefins, they ensure greater compatibility during recycling, avoiding the issues of traditional nylon-polyethylene solutions.

Circular management of waste: All pure polyethylene waste from production processes is reprocessed by third parties in a dedicated supply chain. Medium-term projects include purchasing hazardous raw materials in tanker trucks to reduce and eliminate the resulting waste. The company carries out periodic audits of the third parties that manage the waste.
