Cofemo
Founded in Brescia in 1958, Cofemo is a recognised leader in the design and production of aluminium bases and components for office chairs. Sixty years of Italian mechanical excellence, with an identity built on quality, precision and design — exported worldwide. Since 2023, Circularity has been accompanying Cofemo as an ESG partner in a journey integrating annual sustainability reporting and structured emissions management.
The context
The components industry faces a crucial challenge today: reducing the carbon footprint of production processes without losing competitiveness. For a company like Cofemo, active in international markets with clients increasingly attentive to the ESG requirements of their suppliers, measuring and communicating environmental impact has become an enabling requirement as well as a strategic choice.
Cofemo has chosen to face this journey with method, adopting a scientific approach to measure impacts, identify intervention priorities and build a concrete, time-verifiable decarbonisation roadmap.
The objectives
To report sustainability performance annually, measure the operational carbon footprint across Scope 1 and 2 according to the GHG Protocol, and define a multi-year decarbonisation roadmap based on verifiable data, aligned with international carbon management standards.
Circularity's intervention
Since 2023, Circularity has been supporting Cofemo across three integrated workstreams:
Annual Sustainability Report
Each year, Circularity supports Cofemo in drafting and publishing its Sustainability Report, ensuring continuity in ESG performance reporting and transparency towards clients, partners and stakeholders in the international supply chain.
Carbon Footprint measurement (GHG Protocol)
Circularity measured Cofemo's direct and indirect emissions across Scope 1 and 2, analysing the emissions flows linked to energy consumption in production processes. The emissions inventory built over time provides a solid, comparable and verifiable data foundation — the starting point for any credible reduction strategy.
Critical area identification and climate roadmap
Building on the emissions profile, Circularity mapped the processes of greatest carbon intensity, identifying the main levers for efficiency improvement. Alternative reduction scenarios were developed — each with defined time targets and varying levels of ambition — to offer Cofemo a flexible strategic vision, capable of adapting to the evolution of the production and market context.
The results
The journey initiated in 2023 has equipped Cofemo with a solid and structured emissions database, an annually published Sustainability Report and a multi-year climate roadmap with concrete intervention scenarios. The company now has the tools needed to pursue further emissions reduction pathways, evaluate offsetting options and communicate its environmental commitment with credibility in the international markets in which it operates.
