Ferriere Nord - Pittini Group
Historic steelworks of the Pittini Group, operating in the metallurgical sector.
A company that has made the valorization of waste a distinctive element of its production model, implementing since 1995 refining processes for furnace slag to obtain Granella®, a registered trademark product that can be marketed as a filler for cementitious conglomerates.
The context
In a market that is increasingly sensitive to and bound by virtuous environmental requirements, competition between companies grows hand in hand with the need for visibility and differentiation from competing businesses.
The world of end-of-life materials and recovery supply chains requires a change of approach: moving from viewing waste as a problem to be solved to seeing it as a resource to be valorized.
In a naturally circular context such as steel production, every initiative geared toward sustainability is decisive, from actions aimed at greater energy efficiency to obtaining "environmental labels".
The objectives
Characterizing products not only with the EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) but also scientifically calculating the circularity of their production line, demonstrating with objective data the environmental value of the processes implemented.
Circularity's intervention
Circularity calculated the Material Circularity Indicator of all Ferriere Nord SpA products according to the methodology of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, a leader in the dissemination and definition of good circular practices.
The Material Circularity Indicator measures the circularity of a product by taking into consideration three fundamental parameters:
The amount of virgin raw material required for production
The amount of unrecoverable waste generated throughout the entire life cycle
The results
-
Objective measurement of the circularity of all Ferriere Nord products
-
Scientific validation of circular processes already implemented (Granella® since 1995)
-
Competitive differentiation based on certified data
-
A concrete tool to communicate the environmental value of products
-
Integration with the EPD for complete and credible environmental communication
