Granoro integrates supply chain, packaging and ESG goals into a single sustainability strategy

Sustainability Strategic Plan, Materiality analysis and stakeholder engagement, and GRI Sustainability Report
Agri-food

Granoro

Granoro is a family-run pasta producer from Puglia, active since 1967 in the production of pasta and ready-made sauces. A company that has made innovation its hallmark: the first Italian pasta producer to introduce recyclable paper packaging for its organic line and the special formats of its 100% Puglia supply chain, reducing plastic use by 35% per package.

The context

Granoro had already launched concrete initiatives on the environmental front, from sustainable packaging to supply chain traceability, but these actions were scattered, lacking an overall vision to connect them to medium and long-term strategic objectives.

The company felt the need to move from isolated interventions to a systemic approach: integrating sustainability into the core business, making it measurable, communicable and above all governable over time through clear objectives shared with all stakeholders.

The objectives

Building an integrated, measurable and communicable ESG strategy, anchored to the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda.

Circularity's intervention

The journey with Granoro unfolded in three distinct but interconnected phases:

1
Materiality analysis and stakeholder engagement: We mapped the ESG issues relevant to the company and its stakeholders, from local supply chain providers to end consumers, identifying the priorities on which to focus strategic efforts.

2

Definition of the multi-year Strategic Sustainability Plan: Starting from the materiality analysis, we built a roadmap organized around 4 strategic pillars:

  • Local and traced supply chain

  • People and community

  • Environment

  • Innovation

These pillars translate into 14 objectives and 40 concrete, measurable actions, each connected to the SDGs of the 2030 Agenda most relevant to the agri-food sector.
3
Drafting of the first Sustainability Report in accordance with GRI Standards: In 2023, Granoro voluntarily chose to publicly report on the results of its ESG commitment through a transparent, verifiable document aligned with the international GRI standards.

The results

Granoro has transformed its environmental commitment from a set of scattered initiatives into an integrated and governed strategy, with clear objectives, defined timelines and monitoring metrics.

The company has gained the ability to communicate its impact in a credible and verifiable way, strengthening its relationship with customers, suppliers and the local community.
