DESA Group
With iconic brands such as Chanteclair and Spuma di Sciampagna, the DESA Group has been a leading player in the cleaning and personal care market for over a century.
A family-run multinational that has evolved while keeping its roots firmly planted in Italy.
The context
In the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector, sustainability is won on the shelf.
DESA wanted to go beyond surface-level communication, seeking scientific validation of its products' impact to guide the eco-design of formulations and packaging.
The objectives
Use the LCA methodology to analyze the product life cycle and obtain environmental certifications (EPD) that demonstrate the brand's transparency and commitment.
Circularity's contribution
We analyzed the "journey" of the DESA product, from raw material to final disposal:
Defining the Functional Unit: We established the analysis parameters for each product category, ensuring the consistency of the LCA study in accordance with the ISO 14040 standard.
Inventory Analysis (LCI) and Impacts: We mapped every ingredient and packaging material, calculating its impact on indicators such as water eutrophication and the consumption of fossil resources.
Planning Improvement Actions: Based on the results, we supported the R&D team in identifying more sustainable raw materials and developing packaging ready for the circular economy.
The results
-
Scientific Validation: Objective data that eliminates any risk of greenwashing.
-
Product Efficiency: Optimization of resources along the entire value chain.
-
Competitive Advantage: EPD certifications that enhance the brand in the eyes of consumers and large-scale retailers.
