Italtergi S.r.l. has been an Italian centre of excellence since 1990, specialising in the design and production of wiper systems and electric motors for the automotive, railway and marine industries. In markets where technical reliability is the fundamental requirement, a supplier's credibility is increasingly measured also by its ability to report and reduce its environmental impact.

The context

As a partner in the mobility supply chain, Italtergi faces increasingly stringent sustainability standards required by major OEM manufacturers. The company had already initiated Scope 1 and 2 emissions reporting and defined a decarbonisation plan in 2023 aligned with the objectives of the Paris Agreement.

 

The need was to consolidate this foundation, objectively establish its emissions profile over a broader historical horizon and build a robust, verifiable and communicable data structure for the supply chain.

The objectives

To measure greenhouse gas emissions across Scope 1 and 2 for the period 2020–2022 according to the GHG Protocol, identify critical emissions hotspots and define reduction scenarios integrated with the company's industrial planning.

Circularity's contribution

Circularity accompanied Italtergi through a structured process articulated across three phases.

Emissions mapping and inventory

 

Scope 1 and 2 emissions were quantified for the three-year period 2020–2022, analysing every operational aspect of the production site: from plant energy consumption to company fleet fuel use, through to indirect impacts along the value chain. A complete inventory that provided Italtergi with a clear and verifiable picture of its historical emissions profile.

Emissions hotspot analysis

 

Building on the inventory, the critical nodes in the management of direct and indirect emissions were identified, with operational guidance on the main energy efficiency levers and responsible materials management — directing intervention priorities towards the areas with the greatest reduction potential.

Climate planning support

 

Circularity developed emissions reduction scenarios, helping the company integrate sustainability criteria into its long-term industrial vision and build a concrete roadmap for directing investments towards technologies and processes with a lower environmental impact.

The results

The process has strengthened Italtergi's positioning as a strategic and responsible supplier in the mobility supply chain. The company now has a complete and historically structured emissions inventory across Scope 1, 2 and 3, full awareness of its emissions performance and a clear reduction roadmap for guiding future investments.
