From Carbon Footprint to climate roadmap

Climate strategy and Carbon Footprint measurement
Manufacturing

Lucart

Lucart is a multinational company with over 65 years of experience and 10 plants worldwide, specialized in the production of tissue, airlaid and MG paper for the retail and B2B markets.

For years, the company has integrated sustainability among its strategic values, with a strong focus on product innovation, production efficiency and the use of recycled raw materials.

The context

Lucart has launched a structured decarbonization journey to reduce its carbon footprint and align with international standards, particularly the Science Based Targets (SBTs). To build a solid data foundation on which to develop its climate strategy actions, the company reported its corporate Carbon Footprint across the entire operational perimeter, analyzing the emissions generated between 2019 and 2023 according to the ISO 14064 standard.

The main challenge? Transforming a large amount of heterogeneous data, spread across multiple plants and processes, into clear, comparable information that can be used at a strategic level.

The objectives

Defining a concrete decarbonization strategy, based on solid data and integrated into corporate decision-making processes.

Circularity's intervention

We supported Lucart in developing its climate roadmap, turning the Carbon Footprint analysis into an operational tool to guide decisions and define the main areas of intervention.

The work was developed on several levels:

1
By analyzing Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions in depth and building a complete emissions inventory, consistent with the ISO 14064 standard, capable of accurately representing the impact of corporate activities.
2
By mapping the main emission sources along the entire value chain, in order to identify the areas with the highest carbon intensity and the operational dynamics that generate them.
3
By identifying the most effective reduction levers, both directly and along the supply chain, and defining concrete intervention priorities.
4
By building a climate roadmap integrated into the corporate strategy, capable of translating data into actions that are measurable over time.

The results

The project enabled Lucart to move from an analysis phase to a structured emissions management system, making decarbonization an operational element rather than just a declarative one.

The main lines of action for emissions reduction were defined, with a roadmap that allows progress to be monitored over time and actions to be adapted dynamically.

In addition, the level of detail achieved in the analysis made it possible to engage the supply chain more extensively, opening the way to a systemic approach to reducing environmental impact.

  • A defined and actionable decarbonization strategy
  • Clarity on the main emission sources
  • A structured climate roadmap that can be monitored over time
  • Broad supply chain engagement
  • Integration of climate goals into decision-making processes
