With LCA, Mogu demonstrates the environmental value of mycelium-based materials

Life Cycle Assessment
Construction – Infrastructure

Mogu

Mogu is a pioneering company in the use of fungal mycelium to develop innovative materials, founded with the vision of combining the intelligence of Nature with the design of everyday products.

The company has developed a diverse range of materials through advanced protocols, from foamy softness to high-density strength.

The PLUMA collection, sound-absorbing panels made entirely from natural materials, represents a concrete testament to Mogu's commitment to promoting sustainable solutions in the construction industry.

The context

Mogu had already built its identity around environmental sustainability and minimizing the impacts of its production processes.

However, in a market increasingly focused on environmental responsibility, a scientific tool was missing to accurately quantify the ecological footprint of its products.

The company wanted to go beyond qualitative storytelling: objective, verifiable, and communicable data were needed, capable of demonstrating to the market the real environmental value of its solutions and identifying further areas for improvement.

The objectives

Carry out a Life Cycle Assessment study to quantify the environmental impacts of products, optimize production processes, and communicate sustainability to the market in a transparent and credible way.

Circularity's intervention

We supported Mogu in developing a comprehensive LCA study, analyzing the entire life cycle of the products to provide an accurate picture of the environmental impacts generated.

The work was structured along three main directions:

1
Decarbonization Plan: We built a tailor-made plan aimed at zeroing out direct emissions and drastically reducing those of the supply chain: energy efficiency and heat recovery, eco-design of products, selection of raw materials with lower impact.
2
Sustainability communication: transformation of LCA data into a concrete marketing tool, to communicate in a transparent and convincing way the reduced environmental impact of products and stand out in the market.
3
Regulatory compliance and competitiveness: use of the LCA study as a tool to demonstrate compliance with regulations and meet the most stringent tender specifications in the field of sustainability.

The results

The analysis enabled the company to identify areas for improvement in its production processes, communicate the environmental value of its solutions to the market with objective data, and strengthen its competitiveness in a context increasingly oriented toward environmental responsibility.

  • Comprehensive LCA study on the product life cycle
  • Identification of critical issues and improvement KPIs
  • Transparent communication tool for the market
  • Compliance with regulatory requirements and the most stringent tender specifications
