Smape

Smape is an Italian company highly specialized in maintenance services for the Oil and Gas extraction industry.

The company's activities are organized into three macro-areas: provision of maintenance services on onshore and offshore oil and gas pipelines with ad hoc equipment such as coil tubing; on-site transport of onshore equipment and supply of specialized personnel; support and maintenance for regasification activities.

The context

Smape operated through several sites and subsidiaries, each with different activities. The company wanted to play an active role in achieving Net Zero by 2050, but it lacked a structured system to report its emissions reliably and accurately.

A detailed emissions inventory was needed, capable of tracking the performance of individual sites on the same activities and identifying which types of business generated the greatest climate impact, in order to communicate transparently with stakeholders.

The objectives

Build a complete and accurate emissions inventory according to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol standards, with detailed reporting for individual sites and subsidiaries, to monitor performance and communicate the commitment to climate neutrality.

Circularity's contribution

We adopted a top-down approach to analyze the emissions produced by the organization's various sites, following the methodology defined by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

The work was structured in several phases:

1
Applicability analysis: preliminary mapping of all the company's activities to identify relevant emission sources.
2
Structured data collection: close collaboration with the company's project manager to gather accurate data on individual sites and subsidiaries, ensuring the highest possible precision.
3
Building the emissions inventory: creation of a detailed inventory that allowed the company to compare the performance of different sites on the same activities and identify the types of business with the highest emissions impact.

The meticulous work of data research made it possible to build a structured monitoring system, with a clear breakdown between different sites and subsidiaries.

The results

The company has gained a concrete tool to monitor which activities generate the greatest climate impact, communicate transparently with its stakeholders, and define targeted actions toward Net Zero by 2050.

  • Complete emissions inventory according to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol

  • Detailed reporting for individual sites and subsidiaries

  • Identification of activities with the highest emissions impact

  • Transparent communication tool for stakeholders

  • Solid foundation for the path toward Net Zero 2050
  • Participation in the United Nations Global Compact
