Measuring ESG positioning to guide CGT's transition

Sustainability Assessment and integrated Materiality Analysis
Construction – Infrastructure

CGT - Tesya Group

CGT has been the leading Caterpillar dealer in Italy for almost 90 years. The company offers integrated sales, rental and support services to its customers in the Mining, Major Works, Infrastructure, Construction, Power Generation, Oil&Gas and Marine Mechanics sectors.

Part of the Tesya Group, CGT is today a European player capable of offering tailored solutions to its customers.

The context

CGT positions itself as a strategic partner to guide its customers through the digital and energy transition.

As Giorgio Brenna, CEO of CGT spa, points out: "Attention to the environment, process efficiency and the reduction of the carbon footprint are increasingly central goals for companies, and they will be even more so in the future."

And to credibly lead this transformation for its customers, CGT needed to:

  • Understand its level of maturity on sustainability topics.

  • Precisely identify priority areas for improvement.

  • Obtain an objective snapshot of the company's ESG positioning.

  • Define where to concretely start on the sustainability journey.

A clear, measurable and strategic starting point was needed.

The objectives

To measure the company's ESG positioning against the SDGs of the 2030 Agenda and identify intervention priorities through an integrated materiality analysis.

Circularity's intervention

CGT chose to start the journey with the Sustainability Assessment, the tool that allows companies to capture the level of sustainability achieved and pinpoint priority areas for improvement.

1

INTEGRATED MATERIALITY ANALYSIS

The Circularity team engaged the top management through a structured questionnaire to:

  • Identify priority areas for action on sustainability
  • Assess the company's current coverage of each ESG topic
  • Gather the perspective of internal stakeholders on the relevance of the various topics

  • Integrate the perspective of external stakeholders

2

STRUCTURED ESG ASSESSMENT

The analysis covered 24 topics structured around the 3 pillars of sustainability:

  • Environmental (environmental impact, resource management, carbon footprint)
  • Social (people, communities, supply chain)
  • Governance (ethics, transparency, risk management)

Each topic was assessed in relation to:

  • The company's current level of coverage
  • Relevance for stakeholders
  • The Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda

3

DELIVERABLES AND ROADMAP

The Circularity team delivered to CGT:

  • A materiality matrix highlighting strategic priorities
  • A clear and measurable ESG positioning
  • Concrete suggestions for improvement on which to build the action plan

The results

  • Complete ESG snapshot: structured assessment across 24 sustainability topics
  • Clear priorities: identification of the most relevant areas for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Strategic focus: the environmental pillar emerged as a priority, in particular the topics related to SDG 13 (Climate Action)
  • Operational roadmap: first concrete suggestions for improvement to implement
