OLV (Officina Meccanica)
Since 1973, O.L.V. has been designing, building and managing bespoke systems for industrial, commercial, public and residential spaces, with particular expertise in interventions on historic and protected buildings.
Based in Empoli, the company has over the years expanded its competencies to include renewable energy, air conditioning, fire protection systems and public lighting. Since 2024, O.L.V. has embarked on a structured sustainability journey with Circularity — a multi-year project integrating ESG strategy, reporting, emissions management and circular material management.
The context
Electrical plant engineering is a sector characterised by intensive material use and operations distributed across a large number of worksites. Procurement, energy consumption and production waste represent both a source of environmental impact and an opportunity for improvement.
In an industrial landscape where ESG criteria are becoming enabling requirements for accessing the supply chains of major clients, OLV has chosen to approach the sustainability transition with method and a long-term vision: not a series of isolated initiatives, but an integrated system capable of measuring, reporting and improving over time.
The objectives
To build a structured, multi-year ESG strategy; report sustainability performance according to GRI Standards; measure the company's carbon footprint; define an emissions reduction plan; and identify concrete circular economy opportunities for the management of production waste.
Circularity's intervention
Since 2024, Circularity has been supporting OLV as an ESG partner across four integrated workstreams.
Sustainability strategic plan
Circularity supported OLV in defining a structured ESG strategy, identifying intervention priorities, medium-to-long-term objectives and the concrete actions to achieve them. The plan integrates the company's operational needs with the growing expectations of the industrial supply chain in terms of environmental and social responsibility.
Multi-year Sustainability Report (GRI Standards)
A continuous reporting process according to GRI Standards has been initiated, with the objective of building a solid and comparable information base over time. The Sustainability Report enables OLV to communicate its ESG performance transparently and authoritatively to clients, partners and supply chain stakeholders.
Carbon Footprint measurement and Carbon Management Plan
Circularity measured the company's greenhouse gas emissions across Scope 1, 2 and 3, analysing energy consumption, procured materials and other indirect impacts of the company's activities. Building on the data collected, a Carbon Management Plan was developed that integrates emissions reduction objectives with the company's growth plan, tracing a coherent decarbonisation trajectory.
Circular economy strategy for production waste
Circularity analysed the main waste flows generated by the company, mostly associated with the construction and demolition sector, identifying opportunities for recovery, recycling and potential industrial symbiosis. The objective is to transform waste from an operational cost into a resource, maximising circularity across the company's operations.
The results
The journey started in 2024 has equipped OLV with concrete tools for measuring, managing and communicating its sustainability. The company now has a multi-year ESG strategy, a continuous reporting system according to GRI Standards and a plan for managing its carbon footprint. The waste analysis has opened recovery and circularity opportunities that translate into operational efficiency and cost reduction. On the competitive front, the journey strengthens OLV's positioning as a reliable and responsible supplier in an industrial supply chain that is increasingly attentive to ESG requirements.
