Progeo S.R.L.
Progeo is a company active in the production of flours and feeds for various types of livestock farming.
It stands as one of the first companies to have used the BIO label in Italy, operating in both the agri-food sector and the feed supply chain.
The company has long used energy from renewable sources through its own photovoltaic plants, having integrated over time an "involuntary" sustainability without yet formalizing it into a structured pathway.
The context
Progeo had already adopted significant sustainable practices: pioneering use of the BIO label in Italy, self-production of renewable energy through photovoltaics, attention to the quality of raw materials.
However, these initiatives had emerged spontaneously and in an unstructured way ("involuntary sustainability").
The company wanted to formalize this pathway, gain awareness of the current state, further reduce environmental impact, and position itself as a benchmark in the feed supply chain, but it lacked an objective measurement of ESG performance and a clear view of strengths and areas for improvement.
The objectives
Measure the current state of corporate sustainability through a Flash Audit based on GRI Standards, identify strengths and areas for improvement, and lay the foundations for reporting ESG performance through a future Sustainability Report.
Circularity's intervention
We captured Progeo's "involuntary" sustainability, turning it into structured data based on international standards.
Flash Audit based on GRI Standards: applied the international ESG reporting standards to map the company's current state in the BIO feed and agri-food supply chain.
Internal interviews and materiality questionnaire: engaged corporate functions to identify the ESG topics most relevant to Progeo (BIO raw materials, self-produced renewable energy, impact of livestock farming) and to gather evidence on existing practices.
SWOT Analysis: analyzed strengths (BIO pioneering, photovoltaics, supply chain quality), weaknesses, market opportunities, and risks for the feed and flour sector.
Environmental Performance Analysis: quantified energy consumption, production from renewable sources, management of BIO and recycled raw materials, and impacts along the feed supply chain.
The results
-
Awareness of sustainable assets: Progeo transformed its "involuntary sustainability" (pioneering BIO, photovoltaics) into data measured according to GRI Standards, gaining full awareness of the value already created.
-
Materiality mapping for the feed sector: identified the ESG topics relevant to the BIO feed and agri-food supply chain, with clear priorities shared by internal and external stakeholders.
-
Improvement roadmap: gained concrete operational insights to further reduce environmental impact and strengthen social and economic performance.
-
Foundation for future reporting: created a structured framework to draft the Sustainability Report and position the company as a benchmark of transparency in the Italian feed supply chain.
